The Shalleck Collaborative, Inc. (www.shalleck.com) offers comprehensive consulting services in the planning and design of spaces for the performing arts, theatre production systems and Audio-Visual Systems. Based out of offices in Berkeley, California and Portland, Oregon, our multi-disciplinary team of sixteen is composed of theatre production, design, and technical professionals, AV specialists and architects.

 

Position Overview:

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented individual for a Theater Consultant – Project Manager position on our team. This role involves shepherding projects from the beginning phases of design through construction, including leading systems design, project managing internal workflow and interfacing with external project teams. The ideal candidate will have experience in theater planning, design of technical systems, and project coordination. They will be accountable for ensuring projects meet client needs and industry standards.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

Primary Duties

Project Management:

  • Oversee the coordination of theater consulting projects from concept to completion.

  • Serve clients in translating their needs into technical and design implementation, facilitating smooth project execution.

  • Monitor project timelines, effort time expenditures, budgets, and deliverables, ensuring alignment with client expectations.

  • Conduct site visits to assess progress and provide technical input.

  • Lead QC process for projects on all internal and external drawing sets.

 

Drafting & Design:

  • Develop and refine Autodesk CAD/Revit drawings, including plans, sections, and details related to theater design and infrastructure.

  • Coordinate with architects, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure accurate integration of theater systems.

  • Direct and assist with the creation of design documentation, specifications, and presentation materials.

 

Qualifications & Experience:

 

Minimum Requirements

  • Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, and/or other drafting software.

  • Experience in project management and coordination within the performing arts or architectural industry.

  • Familiarity with theatrical systems, including seating, rigging, theatrical lighting, specialty machinery, and/or audio visual equipment.

  • Strong organizational and communication skills to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Focused, professional time management skills

  • Excellent attention to detail, especially during the pressure of deadlines

  • Proficiency in Microsoft office

  • Willingness and eagerness to learn on the job

  • Strong, patient oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to thrive in a highly collaborative environment that values diversity, equity, inclusion, and access, and works effectively with people of varied backgrounds, experiences, and points of view.

 

Preferred Candidates will also have the following:

  • Prior experience working in a technical role for a professional theatre or entertainment venue

  • Prior experience as a theatre consultant or theatrical systems integrator

  • Prior experience developing and editing CSI format specifications

  • Fluency in navigating sections of building code applicable to assembly spaces

  • Proficiency in Bluebeam

 

This is a salaried, full-time position with a comprehensive benefits package.  Some travel may be required as needed by project construction schedules, but not more than 20% of the work year.  It is preferred that this position work in person at our Berkeley office for the first year at minimum, with subsequent possibility for relocation within California or Oregon. Starting salary is $85,000-$100,000 per year plus benefits, depending upon experience and adaptability to position. (Salary is based on Berkeley/Bay Area market and cost of living. Should relocation occur in the future, salary would be adjusted to local market and cost of living.)
