Valley Academic & Cultural Center
Los Angeles Valley College | Valley Glen, CA
The new 118,000-square-foot Valley Academic & Cultural Center at Los Angeles Valley College brings media arts, theatre, and dance programs together in a professional-caliber learning and performance environment serving students and the surrounding San Fernando Valley community.
Designed with Ehrlich Yanai Rhee Chaney Architects, the center integrates four distinct performance venues: a Mainstage Theater, Screening Theatre, Horseshoe Theatre, and Lab Theater, along with an outdoor amphitheater. Each supports different forms of performance and presentation, from theatrical productions and dance to film screenings, experimental work, and community events.
Beyond the theaters, the center provides specialized education and production facilities for both performing and media arts. Theatre and dance students benefit from dedicated rehearsal and studio spaces and technical theater facilities, while broadcasting, cinema, journalism, and photography students have access to a radio and podcast station, foley studio, newsroom, production control rooms, and audio/video labs. These professional facilities allow students to develop their work from initial concept through production and public presentation.
The Shalleck Collaborative provided theatre and audiovisual consulting for the project, helping integrate the specialized systems that support live performance, media production, and hands-on technical training.
