A New Auditorium Standard

The Learning Innovation Center (LINC) at Oregon State University challenges long-held assumptions about large-scale instruction. Rather than relying on traditional lecture halls, the project introduces a series of dynamic, student-centered learning environments designed to support engagement, interaction, and visibility at every scale. With more than 2,300 seats distributed across 14 distinct learning spaces, LINC asks a fundamental question: what should the auditorium of the future look like?—and responds with flexibility, clarity, and connection.

The Shalleck Collaborative served as consultant for large classroom assembly planning and concept design, helping shape the organization, functionality, and experience of the building’s most ambitious instructional spaces. Our work focused on translating emerging pedagogies into spatial strategies that support active learning, digital integration, and meaningful face-to-face interaction, ensuring that every seat remains connected to both the instructor and the collective learning experience.
